Cáceres is culture

The Old City of Cáceres, considered one of the most complete medieval and renaissance urban ensembles in the world, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and Third Monumental Ensemble of Europe by the European Council in 1968. With a great historic and artistic legacy, it was the Extremadura capital of culture in 1992 and it aspires to become a European capital of culture in 2016. The city has other titles and awards given to it by different associations, such as the Pomme d’Or to tourist merit (1996; International Journalists and Tourism Writers Federation), the Archival award (2004; Association for the Recovery of Historical Centres) or Les Étoiles d’Or du Jumelage (1999; European Commission).

From Hotel Don Carlos you can walk to many of the main monuments and tourist landmarks of the city, such as:

  • The Co-cathedral of Santa María: 500 yds.
  • The Church of San Francisco José: 550 yds.
  • Veletas Palace: 180 yds.
  • Church of St John the Baptist: 170 yds.
  • Bujaco Tower: 400 yds.
